Carpal tunnel syndrome is a progressively painful hand and arm condition caused by a pinched nerve on the wrist. There are a number of causative factors for this, including the anatomy of your wrist, select underlying health problems and patterns of hand use. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway which is surrounded by bones and ligaments and is located on the palm side of your wrist. This tunnel protects a main nerve which goes to the hand and nine tendons which allow you to bend your fingers. Compression of this nerve produces the numbness, pain and, eventually, hand weakness that is known as carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the tissues around the flexor tendons in the wrist swell and put pressure on the median nerve. These tissues are called the synovium. The synovium lubricates the tendons making it easy to move the fingers. The swelling of the synovium narrows the confined space of the carpal tunnel, and over time, crowds the nerve. The main cause is pressure on the median nerve traveling through the carpal tunnel. For most people this disease is curable with regular therapy and medication. There is no single cause for carpal tunnel syndrome. Some of the major contributing factors are:
- Heredity is the most important factor, the trait is handed over from generation to generation.
- Old age.
- Hormonal changes related to pregnancy can play a role.
- Medical conditions, including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and thyroid gland imbalance.
- Excessive usage of the hand.
The choice of treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome depends on the severity of the symptoms and any underlying disease which is causing the symptoms. Treatment in the primary stage usually includes rest, immobilization of the wrist in a splint, and occasionally ice application. For those whose work involves hand activity, they will be asked to modify their working schedules. These measures, as well as periodic resting and range of motion stretching exercise of the wrists can actually prevent the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome that are caused by repetitive overuse. Wrist swelling that can be associated with pregnancy resolves in time after delivery of the baby.
I am five months pregnant and recently I got carpel tunnel syndrome, my doctor told me that it was mainly due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy. I was really worried and my doctor consoled me saying that there is nothing to worry and I can cure the condition by wearing a splint so that my wrist won’t move and avoid activities that worsen my condition. I gave ample rest for my wrist and surprisingly I’m completely alright now.
Bad working conditions can be real problemous to any person and many complications out of them could arise from them. Workspace is one place a person would spend a third of this time of the day, really required that space and everything else installed be ergonomic, or that would create much problems for the person who is interacting with them. Common arising problems are back ache, neck ache, pain with the hands or issues like carpel tunnel syndrome or trigger finger issues.
Bad working environments are always potent enough to bring our many issues for a person. Few of the issues as carpeltunnel syndrome happens out of such reasons and interaction with non ergonomic accessories.

Much of time in front of the computer, could stir out troubles as carpel tunnel syndrome. Its not really the time ones spends over the computer that really matters but the tasks carried out, typing in bad position or use of mouse for prolonged periods in an uncomfortable position could all be inviting trouble., not soon but in the near future.
